Ingredients and Equipment

  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 zip-closed plastic bag
  • 1 gas burner or an open flame
  • 1 set of tongs
  • 1 bowl of cold water
  • Paper towels
  • 1 sharpened chef's knife1

Quick Roast a Bell Pepper

1. Turn your burner to high.
2. Place the bell pepper directly on top of the burner.
3. As soon as the bottom becomes black, bubbly and charred, turn with the tongs.
4. After 6 minutes total, the bell pepper should be ready to remove from the heat.
5. Put your pepper in the plastic bag and close, letting it steam for 2 minutes.1 

Peel the Bell Pepper

6. Remove the pepper from the bag and place in your bowl of water.
7. Peel the skin off the pepper in the bowl with your hands and rinse.1 

Slice the Bell Pepper

8. Dry with a paper towel and remove the top and bottom of the pepper with your knife.
9. Slice the pepper open and wipe any excess seeds away with your towel.
10. Your pepper is ready to be incorporated into the dish of your choice!1
